Pittsburgh Food Events – June 2010

in Pittsburgh

Pardon my lack of pictures, but here’s my excuse:

Three Rivers Arts Festival
Free event; food not free
June 4-13, Downtown Pittsburgh
People either love or hate the food at Three Rivers Arts Festival. If you’ve read more than four posts on this blog, you can probably guess where I stand, but that doesn’t change the fact that for many people, Arts Festival food is a start-of-summer tradition. So bring your blankets and a pack of Rolaids for fried vegetables, various and sundry foods on sticks, and of course, funnel cakes. It’s where I’ll be for the next 10 days, and even I have to eat Festival food at least once!

Food, Inc. – Screening and panel discussion
Free
Wednesday, June 9, Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh, Homewood
Do you want to get can’t-sleep mad? Try watching Food, Inc. by yourself. If you want to get fired up to do something, watch the movie at this community gathering with the Black Mommy Circle, Penn State Cooperative Extension, Just Harvest, the Pittsburgh Food Policy Council and the East End Food Co-op, where you can turn rage against the industrial food system into a productive conversation about how we the people can improve the health of our community.

Venture Outdoors Food Events
All month long – and beyond!
Prices vary and start as low as $12 per person for members
Problem: I want to eat more and have more fun, but I also want to fit into pants without an elastic waistband. Solution: Venture Outdoors Food Hikes! Think of it: first you hike, bike or paddle through the beautiful Pittsburgh countryside, and then you mow down some delicious food. In June alone, there’s a Curry Hike, a Cherry & Berry Pie Hike, a Gourmet Hot Dog Paddle, and a Champagne and Cocktails Hike. The fun continues every month, so check out the full schedule!

Casbah PastaFest IV
June 28 – July 1
After my first-ever visit to Casbah in May, I’m officially ready to go back, and now I have an excuse: a menu of 14 special pasta dishes. Pasta is my #1 comfort food and all-around favorite thing to eat, hands down. This one-week menu features dishes starting at just $8, and includes selections like bleu cheese ravioli, veal tortelloni with lobster and mushrooms, red pepper caseteccia with rock shrimp and 11 other delectable options. How on earth with I choose?
