New on Burghilicious: from time to time, I’m going to give you a line-up of interesting upcoming food events happening in Pittsburgh – BEFORE they happen! If you hear of something that sounds interesting, drop me a line.

12-3pm, Saturday, February 20
None other than the esteemed Washington Post just featured an entire article about soup in Pittsburgh. It’s no secret I’m a huge fan of soup in the winter time. That’s why I’m excited to attend my first South Side Soup Contest next weekend. Think of it: an afternoon wandering the shops of the South Side, sampling soups from more than a dozen South Side restaurants. One of last year’s entries was Obi Wan Pierogie, combining my love of Star Wars and pierogies! Buy your ticket for $12 in advance, because it’s likely to sell out.

Allegheny College, Meadville

There’s probably no other single writer who has influenced my philosophies on food and cooking more than Michael Pollan. Author of The Omnivore’s Dilemma, In Defense of Food and the newly-released Food Rules, Pollan advocates – and presents some darn compelling evidence – for seasonal, local, organic eating. Make the drive to Meadville for this free lecture if you can!

6pm, Sunday, February 28
Hollywood Theater in Dormont

Enrico’s and Dormont’s newly restored Hollywood Theater have teamed up for a monthly event, Dinner and a Movie. Scheidt and I went to see A Christmas Story (Show mommy how the piggy eats!) at their December event as our holiday date. We took a bottle of wine and tucked into a pile of pork roast in the beautiful new theater. This month’s event features the food blogger fantasty movie Julie & Julia, and a menu of cassoulet, roasted veggies and more. $30 gets you a delicious meal, a great movie and a fun night out – particularly after this snow. Reserve your seat today.

Plus, starting March 6: Weekly four-course farm-to-table Saturday night dinners at Dozen Bake Shop. For more info and reservations, email info@dozenbakeshop.com. Reservations required.

And: don’t forget to sign up for your CSA! Time is running out for registration. I’m a subscriber to Penn’s Corner, but there are lots of great options in our region.
